The Cardiovascular Center @ St. Joseph Hospital                       Cardiac Rehabilitation

The Staff

Cardiac Rehabilitation is a comprehensive program for heart health. Designed and supervised by a team of board-certified physicians, dietitians, exercise physiologists, registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and social workers, its goal is to help you return to an active and productive life. The Cardiac Rehabilitation program emphasizes St. Joseph Hospital's commitment to each individual participant's wellness, recovery and health maintenance.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Programs
Our Acute Care and Wellness/Maintenance Program provides a wide range of educational and therapeutic services that emphasize prevention, recovery, wellness, and most of all, support and educational programs to enjoy a healthy lifestyle. Our facility is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostics, basic life support systems and emergency medical supplies.

Inpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation
This care begins upon hospital admission and continues until your discharge. We focus on immediate physical and emotional recovery, including an individualized exercise program, strategies for reducing risk factors, coping mechanisms, and education regarding medications, lifestyle and diet.

Acute Outpatient Program
Cardiac Rehabilitation at SJH, ©Joseph St. Pierre Photography This program begins upon discharge and continues through a 4- to 12-week rehabilitation period. Patients participate in progressive aerobic exercise and strength training that is telemetry monitored and clinically supervised. A cardiac nurse and an exercise physiologist plan and monitor these individualized exercise sessions under the supervision of a medical director.

Maintenance and Wellness Programs
A lifelong maintenance and conditioning program is designed to promote your rehabilitative cardiovascular health and wellness. Our wellness program includes instruction and maintenance of home exercise programs.

Our Cardiac Rehabilitation program provides education and social and emotional support. Our education sessions, which are available for both patients and family members, offer guidelines about stress management, risk factors and behavioral modification. In addition, the hospital's social service staff is available to help patients and families through this challenging process of change. St. Joseph Hospital also provides a monthly cardiac support group, which is open to all cardiac patients in the community.

St. Joseph Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation standards are set in accordance with the national guidelines established by the American Heart Association, the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation and the American College of Cardiologists.
