The Childbirth Center @ St. Joseph Hospital Childbirth Center

Like the tiny footprints of newborns in our nursery, every women's experience of pregnancy is similar - yet unique. At the Childbirth Center, our focus is entirely on you. Your special needs. Your individual style. We don't have a long list of rules - just a lengthy record of happy moms and healthy newborns. To come in for our tour of our Childbirth Center and private birthing suites, give us a call at (603) 595-3162. Or register for our monthly Tour Night at The Chidbirth Center by calling (603) 595-3168.

Our facilities and medical team are prepared and equipped for any situation during the birthing process. If you need a Cesarean section, an operating suite is located just down the hall. We also have established relationships with a pediatric cardiologist and a geneticist.

Our promise is to make your delivery day as smooth and comfortable as possible. That's why at St. Joseph Hospital, we offer a wide range of maternity and childbirth services:

  • Classes covering every aspect of your pregnancy and childbirth, including basic childbirth education, childbirth refresher, ceserean section class, and a sibling class to help 3 to 10 year olds prepare for the arrival of a new baby. We also offer breastfeeding classes taught by a certified lactation consultant. For more information about our classes or to register for a class, click here. (link to health & wellness education search)
  • Comfortable, private birthing rooms for your labor, delivery and recovery.
  • One-on-one attention from experienced nurses.
  • Advanced technology and a skilled nursing staff to support your physician or certified nurse midwife.
  • Expert instruction in the care of your newborn.
  • An "open" approach to suit your individual needs and choices.
  • Two special 24-hour hotlines, staffed by our Childbirth Center nurses, for questions about you, the new mom, and your newborn baby.

For more information about The Childbirth Center contact Joanna Vallie, RN, Program Director, at 603-595-3162 or jvallie@sjh-nh.org.

Child Passenger Safety Program

St. Joseph Hospital is now offering a free service to our patients and the Greater Nashua community. As part of our commitment to injury prevention and safety, we have developed a Child Passenger Safety Program, available through the departments of Emergency & Trauma Services and Maternal Child Health. Parents, grandparents, guardians and caregivers of young children are encouraged to make an appointment with one of the Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians. Child car seat safety, proper seat selection, proper seat installation, and seat belt safety education are some of the services provided by the Child Safety Technicians. To make an appointment or for more information, please call Sue Barnard, RN, ARNP, at (603) 882.3000 ext 66415. This program is free.

Scott and Holly MacDonald, holding baby Joshua in center of photo, are surrounded by the team that provided care and support during Joshua's birth at St. Joseph Hospital. Born seven weeks early, Joshua arrived on Thursday, July 24, 2003 at 7:09 a.m. He weighed in a 5 pounds, 5 ounces and measured 18 inches long. "We will never forget the nurse midwives, doctors and nurses at The Childbirth Center," said Holly and Scott. "They made Joshua's early birth a truly wonderful experience. Their warm hearts and reassuring words were just as important as the latest clinical advances."
