Information for Families

We understand that this is a difficult time for families. It’s a time filled with transition and change; but we are here to help. SAMHU offers a comprehensive system of care providing acute inpatient psychiatric treatment for people age 55 and older. Our 18-bed Geriatric-Psychiatric Unit offers a quiet, comfortable setting within St. Joseph Hospital that fosters physical and psychological recovery and healing from mental illnesses and/or behavioral changes.

Healthcare Professionals: When making a referral, safety precautions will be covered for the safety of all patients.

Medications

Only medications ordered by a St. Joseph Hospital physician will be dispensed. If you arrive with any medications, you will be asked to check them in with one of our nurses and they will be stored until discharge.

Valuables/Gifts

The hospital cannot be responsible for lost or missing items. Please leave all valuables such as jewelry, credit cards, checks, or cash at home. If you arrive with valuable items, please check them in with one of our nurses upon your arrival.
