To help you prepare for parenthood, the St. Joseph Hospital Maternal Child Health Education Program offers you both convenience and a personalized learning experience. You and your birthing partner can participate together in our eClasses, scheduled on your own time and learn at your own pace. Then, join our Childbirth Education team to ask questions in person, meet other expectant parents and tour our Maternal Child Health Center.

Understanding Birth

This interactive, self-paced online course delivers essential information to help prepare expectant parents for a healthy, fulfilling birth experience. Engaging videos, life-like 3D animation and personal birth stories give you the knowledge and insight you need to make informed decisions about labor and delivery. You’ll even create your own birth plan! This eClass is accessible from any computer or mobile device with an internet connection. Be sure to allow 4-6 hours to complete this course. Register Now!

Understanding Your Newborn

This eClass will help you gain the confidence you need to care for your precious little one. You and your support person will learn about the specific care your baby needs in the first six weeks and beyond as well as understand the importance of baby cues, early brain development and bonding. You’ll also gain valuable insight into topics including: newborn traits and behaviors, crying and comforting, feeding, diapering, bathing, nail care, infant CPR and much more! Saturday, 9:00–11:00 a.m. March 30, May 11, June 22, August 3 or September 14 Together with other expectant parents, you’ll tour our Maternal Child Health Center, interact with staff and ask any questions you may still have. This class is designed to provide a hands-on experience to supplement your online learning.

Maternal Child Health Center Tour

Monday, 6:00–7:00 p.m.
April 1, May 6, June 3, July 8, August 5 or September 9

Join us as we walk you through our private Baby-Friendly™ birthing and postpartum patient rooms. You’ll be given the chance to ask our Maternal Child Health staff any questions you may have, while meeting other expectant parents. Birthing partners are welcome and encouraged to join you for this tour.

Child Passenger Safety Car Seat Inspection and Education

Your family’s safety is important to us. Contact us at 603.595.3055 or childpassengersafetyprogram@sjhnh.org to schedule an appointment with a certified child passenger safety technician. We’ll teach you how to install an age- and size-appropriate safety system in your vehicle to ensure your child travels safely. We strongly recommend scheduling your appointment prior to week 36 of your pregnancy.

Parents’ Support Group

Our experienced staff creates a positive, safe community for you to share the joys and challenges of parenthood with other parents. As part of this group, you’ll learn tips and tricks on a variety of topics, such as feeding, soothing, communication, self-care and more. One-On-One Support

St. Joseph Hospital Maternal Child Health provides exceptional personal care for you and your baby. Our clinical staff is available to talk with you one-on-one to answer questions at any point during your pregnancy, labor, delivery and even after you go home.

Prenatal Support for Patients

We are here for you – to answer questions and provide support throughout your pregnancy. Our Maternal Child Health nurses will take the time to reach out to all St. Joseph Hospital OB/GYN and Midwifery patients at 28- and 36-weeks’ gestation to check-in, offer support and answer any questions you may have.

Lactation Program and Support

If you’re a St. Joseph Hospital OB/GYN or Midwifery patient and you’d like to arrange for a oneon-one outpatient prenatal or postpartum lactation appointment, please contact our lactation consultant, Teri D’Onofrio, BSN, IBCLC at 603.595.5300 - ext. 66047 or tdonofrio@sjhnh.org.

In-Room Support

Our committed nursing team and certified lactation consultants are happy to spend time with you and your newborn. They’ll assist with instruction and technique, which will ensure you’re both comfortable while feeding.

Postpartum Support

When it’s time to depart our Maternal Child Health Center, compassionate care follows you home. Our nursing staff is available by phone 24/7 to answer any questions you have about yourself or your baby. If you need additional support, our lactation consultants will be there for you as long as you need them.
