St. Joseph Hospital Recognized by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for Promoting Enrollment in Organ Donor Registries

Covenant Health, of which St. Joseph Hospital is a member, is very proud to announce its facility was recently recognized, by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), for successfully promoting enrollment in Let Life Bloom organ, eye and tissue donation registries. The registries’ nationwide enrollment grew by 400,000 potential donors during the campaign.

St. Joseph Hospital worked in conjunction with New England Donor Services to improve awareness and educate its hospital staff, patients, visitors and the local community about the critical need for organ, eye and tissue donors. Specific efforts included hanging Donate Life flags throughout the hospital’s campus, hosting inspirational information sessions spotlighting donor/recipient stories, sharing program requirements on social media and more. The result was a significant increase to New Hampshire’s registry of potential donors as well as a Silver Level Let Life Bloom Award from the HRSA’s Workplace Partnership for Life Hospital Campaign.

“Our goals for this campaign were very specific,” said Daniel Moen, Interim President, St. Joseph Hospital. “They were to maintain the 100% referral rate of all potential heart donations, to improve our tissue conversion referral rate and most importantly, to improve overall enrollment in each of the donor registries. We succeeded on all fronts and we greatly appreciate the recognition of our dedicated efforts.”

About the Workplace Partnership for Life Hospital Campaign

This campaign mobilizes the nation’s hospitals to increase the number of people in the country who are registered organ, eye and tissue donors and ultimately, the number of organs available for transplant. The campaign unites donation advocates at hospitals with representatives from their local organ procurement organizations, Donate Life America affiliates as well as state and regional hospital associations. Working together, the teams leverage their communications resources and outreach efforts to most effectively spread word of the critical need for donors.
