Cardiac Rehabilitation

After a serious cardiovascular event, cardiac rehabilitation is an important part of your recovery. A medically monitored cardiac rehab program can help you regain strength and stamina, reduce your coronary risk factors and improve your outlook as well as your overall heart health.

Our cardiac rehabilitation program provides a wide range of educational and therapeutic services that emphasize prevention, recovery, wellness — and most of all — support and educational programs to enjoy a healthy lifestyle. These include:

  • Heart health education for patients and family members
  • Medically monitored exercise
  • Stress management; risk factor and behavior modification strategies
  • Social services and emotional support; monthly cardiac support group meetings

Individualized rehabilitation programs are designed and supervised by a team of board-certified physicians, dietitians, exercise physiologists, registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and social workers. Our facility is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostics, basic life support systems, and emergency medical supplies. Our goal is to help you return to an active and productive life.

Acute outpatient program

The acute outpatient program continues after discharge from 4 to 12 weeks. Patients participate in progressive aerobic exercise and strength training that is telemetry-monitored and clinically supervised. A cardiac nurse and an exercise physiologist plan and monitor these individualized exercise sessions under the supervision of a medical director.

Hear from A Patient

"I have been going to Cardiac Rehab at St. Joseph Hospital for about a month now, and still have another month to go. Going into this experience, I was really anxious and didn't know what to expect. I am genuinely surprised at how much I actually enjoy coming to my appointments. The staff in Cardiac Rehab are extremely helpful and always make me look forward to the following appointment. Between the education and physical activity, I feel confident in being able to live a healthy lifestyle. Dr. Shaikh, of New England Heart and Vascular Institute, has played a vital role in assisting me to be at the absolute best health possible. I'm grateful for my experience with St. Joseph Hospital."
