CT Scan

About CT Scan

CT scanning combines special x-ray equipment with sophisticated computers to produce multiple images or pictures of the inside of the body. These cross-sectional images of the area being studied can then be examined on a computer monitor or printed.

CT scans of internal organs, bone, soft tissue and blood vessels provide greater clarity and reveal more details than regular x-ray exams.

Using specialized equipment and expertise to create and interpret CT scans of the body, radiologists can more easily diagnose problems such as cancers, cardiovascular disease, infectious disease, trauma and musculoskeletal disorders.

Lower Radiation

CT scans are the diagnostic exam of choice when people are ill or injured, or when a physician suspects a medical problem that is not easily detectable with a conventional physical examination. Since exams sometimes can not be avoided, patients should take a proactive approach to limiting their medical radiation doses.

We have taken the next step by having the ASiR radiation reduction software for our GE 64-slice LightSpeed®. This advanced technology delivers enhanced CT image quality with up to 40% less radiation exposure for you-our patients

Department Information

The CT Scan department and equipment at St. Joseph Hospital has achieved American College of Radiology (ACR) Accreditation for quality. The CT department practicies ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) for radiation exposure. State-of-the-art radiation reduction software was added in 2008 and 2010.
