St. Joseph Hospital CARE Program

Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy & Speech Therapy

St. Joseph Hospital’s CAncer REhabilitation (CARE) Program is a cancer survivorship program focused on improving the lives of survivors who suffer from the side-effects caused by cancer and its treatments. One of the key components of survivorship services is having a multidisciplinary cancer rehabilitation team who strives to help survivors improve their ability to function and their quality of life.
As a CARE Program patient, you will receive comprehensive cancer rehabilitation treatment to improve the symptoms affecting your daily functioning and quality of life. These may include: Cancer related fatigue, Musculoskelatal pain, Joint stiffness, Weakness/deconditioning, Balance/walking difficulties, Lymphedema (limb swelling), Cancer Induced Peripheral Neuropathy, Cognitive functioning, Memory problems, Difficulties with activities of dailing living, "Chemo Brain", and Issues with talking or swallowing.

Cancer rehabilitation is much like other forms of rehabilitation which happen after a serious illness or injury such as a stroke or car accident. Your medical services may include appointments with and treatments recommended by medical professionals including physiatrists (doctors who specialize in rehabilitation medicine); nurses; physical, occupational and/or speech therapists; and mental health professionals.

Our Team

Our cancer rehabilitation program is provided by a group of professionals who are specially educated to treat survivors of all forms of cancer. Our team consists of cancer providers along with dedicated and experienced physical, occupational, and speech therapists. St. Joseph Hospital rehabilitation professionals can help you cope with a wide variety of cancer and treatment related conditions. At St. Joseph Hospital, we are dedicated to helping cancer survivors function at the highest level possible. Cancer treatment can be very toxic and often causes significant pain, fatigue and disability for survivors. Through the CARE Program, our goal is to minimize these side effects and to encourage cancer survivors to have the best quality of life possible by providing patients with coordinated cancer rehabilitation.
